Two people were killed after the Pinagbayanan school in Taysan, Batangas was engulfed in flames Tuesday morning, ABS-CBN News reported.
Initial reports said an explosion was heard before the blaze started.
Taysan Fire Marshall Ferdinand Von Micasio said the fatalities have yet to be identified.
The school houses one of the voting precincts in Taysan. As of posting time, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
On Sunday, police had requested the Commission on Elections to place Taysan under the poll body's control because of incidents of violence in the area.
The mayoralty race is tightly contested between incumbent mayor Dondon Portugal and his rival Hernando "Nanding" Villena.
Taysan is a mountainous province in Batangas and one to two hours away from Batangas City. New People’s Army rebels have reportedly been sighted in the area.
