Bacolod - Amity substation blessed

Visayan Daily Star, May 11, 2007

The Amity Fire Brigade is looking forward to putting up more projects in the future in partnership with the Bacolod City government, AFB fire chief Carlos Ganihong said during the blessing and inauguration of the Amity Fire Brigade substation at the Pana-ad Park in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, yesterday.

Ganihong said their organization, which has existed for 30 years now, saw the need for a fire sub station in the area since it would take them about 25 minutes to travel from their main station at the Shopping Center to areas like Handumanan and its neighboring barangays. Because they already have their training center at the Panaad Park, they thought of bringing their services closer to the people by putting up a fire sub station there, he said.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he is happy that the Amity Fire Brigade undertook the project so the city willingly contributed P2 million so the project could be realized. This further shows that a social service such as this is on top of the agenda of his administration, he said. Carlos Javellana, chairman emeritus of the Negros Occidental Filipino-Chinese Association, Inc. said they also plan to put up an additional training center facility in the area.

Ganihong said the training academy where emergency responders are being trained, is the only one in the Philippines run by a non-government organization. He said Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon also gave P2.6 million for the training academy facilities constructed on the property owned by the province. This is a living proof of government and non-government cooperation, he added.
