Motorists cruising along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) before dawn Monday were startled after seeing an Army captain's van catch fire in the middle of the road.

Radio dzBB reported Monday morning that the Toyota Lite-Ace van of Army Capt. Edwin Dumende suddenly caught fire as it passed in front of the Cloverleaf Market in Balintawak.

It said the incident occurred at about 4 a.m. at the southbound lane of EDSA. No one was reported injured in the accident.

The report quoted Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel who rushed to the scene as saying a short circuit in the electrical system likely caused the fire.
