Fires hit QC and Pasig; 10 families homeless

ABS-CBNnews.com, March 18, 2007

Fires hit three separate areas in Quezon City and Pasig City Sunday night and left at least 10 families homeless, ABS-CBN News reported.

The fire in Barangay Baesa in Quezon City broke out at 8:30 p.m. and burned down 10 houses made of light materials.

Fire Officer 2 Noel Bernandin of the Quezon City Fire Department said the blaze started at the house of Lito Borja who lives along Lualhati Street in Manotoc Subdivision.

Bernandin said a child who left an unattended cooking stove could have caused the blaze.

The blaze reached the fifth alarm before it was put under control and declared fire out around 9:30 p.m.

At around the same time, fire broke out at the top floor of an abandoned building in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Workers were dismantling parts of a small transmission tower with an acetylene torch when they accidentally started the fire.

The fire reached first alarm and was extinguished in a matter of minutes.

Still in Pasig, fire destroyed a residential area at the corner of Sampaloc and De Castro Streets in Barangay Rosario.

Firefighters doused the flame after the blaze reached the first alarm.

No casualties were reported in the three incidents.
