A predawn fire caused by a toppled candle destroyed at least three houses near the Batasan Complex in Quezon City, where the House of Representatives is located, Friday morning.
No one was reported injured in the fire, which started at 4 a.m. and reached the fifth alarm before firefighters put it out past 5 a.m.
Radio dzBB reported that the fire started at the house of one Florencia Gonzales near the Freedom Park in Batasan Hills village in Quezon City.
Tension also gripped some residents after a live electric wire sparked while the fire was in progress.
Initial investigation showed the fire stemmed from a candle toppled over, as Gonzales' house had no electricity.
