SPEED, accuracy, and courage are but a few of the characteristics that should be possessed by a firefighter.

And that is what was manifested by firefighters from the different fire stations throughout the region in last Saturday's 1st Firefighting Combat Challenge at SM City Davao grounds.

The 1st Firefighting Combat Challenge is one of the highlights of this year's celebration of the Fire Prevention Month.

To test the strength and skills of the firefighters, as well as their speed, they were made to do rescue and retrieval operations on various scenarios.

According to Bureau of Fire Davao City Operations chief, Sixto Jimenez III, the event had 18 participants from all over the region. The event not only showcased the capabilities of the firefighters but also provided them the opportunity to meet up with their other colleagues.

Those that participated were the fire offices of the Davao Volunteers, Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, and Davao Oriental.

Also joining the event were the volunteer groups of Davao DOSMART, UFC, Kabalikat Civicom, Kab Radio, PLDT, SMC, Dreams, and PEARS and the firefighters from barangays of Ma-a, Dumoy, 9-A in the poblacion, and Matina Crossing.
