3 gov't vehicles in Zambo catch fire
by Bong Garcia
SunStar Zamboanga, December 17, 2006

AT LEAST three government vehicles belonging to the City Government of Zamboanga were partially damaged when they caught fire Friday afternoon while in the parking area of City Hall along Nicasio Valderosa Street.

City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the fire originated from the L-300 van of the City Assessor’s Office, and believed caused by faulty wirings.

Orendain said a utility personnel tried to put off the fire through a fire extinguisher, but two other vehicles parked adjacent to the L-300 van immediately caught fire due to their proximity and were also burned.

The two other vehicles were the L-300 van of the City Human Resource and Development Office and the Tamarraw-FX of the City Engineer’s Office.

“He (utility personnel) tried to put out the fire through extinguisher, but the fire spread and damaged two other vehicles,” Orendain said.

The fire was completely put off by responding firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection stationed along Cesar Climaco Avenue, some 200 meters away from City Hall.

Orendain said they have yet to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire to the three government vehicles.
