Three children died in a fire that razed their house in Barangay (village) Mambuaya here on Tuesday morning, Chief Inspector Oscar Abecia, Cagayan de Oro fire chief, said Wednesday.
Abecia said the Mendez children, Lorrie Ann, 4, Wegie, 4, and Junjun, 1, had no adults with them when the incident occurred around 9 a.m.
Abecia said the children’s grandparents and a 14-year-old aunt had been looking after the children after their parents separated. But the grandparents left for work while the victims' aunt went to school, he said.
Abecia said the fire was not immediately detected by neighbors who were 200 meters away.
He said it was too late to save the children when they received the alarm.
