NAGA CITY – With two days going before Christmas, three members of a prominent family in this city – a mother, her daughter and her grandson – were trapped and killed in a house fire believed sparked by Christmas lights left on before dawn yesterday.
Superintendent Ramon Ranara, city police chief, said the hour-long fire gutted down the two-storey residential building of former Department of Health (DoH)-Region 5 director, Dr. Rolly Romagosa, on Jacob Street, Barangay Bagumbayan, here.
Killed in the blaze were Dr. Romagosa's wife Elvira, 69, also a medical doctor; their daughter, Renee Aubrey R. Morano, 28; and their four-year-old grandson Gabriel Morano.
The family maid, Carmen Asaldo, 60, suffered third degree burns and is being treated at the Bicol Medical Center.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Benhur Carunan, arson investigator from the Bureau of Fire Protection, said Christmas lights left on overnight might have caused the blaze that broke out at 3:15 a.m.
