About 230 families in Parañaque and Pasay will be spending a lonely Christmas after their houses were razed by fire Wednesday evening while another blaze hit a commercial building in Muntinlupa Thursday.
In Parañaque, 30 houses in Barangay San Isidro Creekside were gutted by a fire, which started at 7:26 p.m. Fire Officer Teodorico Gatchalian said 50 families lost their homes in the four-hour fire. Damage to property was placed at P200,000.
In Pasay, about 200 shanties were burned in a fire in Tramo. An elderly woman died while police arrested two looters.
Firefighters said the Pasay fire started at 9 p.m. and was placed under control at 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, a pawnshop, a bakery and a computer-printing shop were damaged by another fire in Poblacion, Muntinlupa, Thursday.
Several fire trucks from Taguig, Parañaque, Muntinlupa and other parts of Metro Manila responded to the alarm.
Damaged were the 3 Angels Bakery and Villarica Pawnshop. The origin of the fire is being determined.
Witnesses said they saw thick smoke coming out from a room on the second floor of the bakery.
