MORE than 30 families lost their homes after a big fire hit a crowded community in Cainta, Rizal on Tuesday night, four days before Christmas Day.
The fire was traced to a two-story house made of light materials in Parola, Barangay San Andres, investigator SFO3 Rene Servillejo told the Inquirer. Teresa Miguel, owner of the house, said the fire started at the ceiling on the second floor. She managed to save her five children although she sustained burns on her face and hands, Servillejo added.
Because the houses in the area were built close to one another, the fire spread rapidly.
Servillejo said many houses in the area are believed to have illegal electricity connections. “We have been warning people about the dangers of illegal connections, but many do not listen,” he said.
The homeless are temporarily staying in a covered court near the area.
