Fiery Monday as 3 fires hit south Metro
by Jocelyn R. Uy
Phil. Daily Inquirer, Dec. 06, 2005

DESPITE the cool December breeze, southern Metro Manila had a fiery spell yesterday morning when it was hit by three fires which destroyed P18 million worth of property. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or injuries.

The first fire razed a three-story building at 263 Quirino Avenue corner Sta. Rita Extension in Baclaran, Parañaque City, shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday, SF01 Jesus Bayani told the Inquirer.

The blaze started at the KTV Bar, a videoke bistro located on the third floor, then spread to the other floors and a nearby two-story boarding house.

“A jumper wire that had ignited could have started the fire, but we are still verifying it,” said Bayani.

When the fire was put out at 6:16 a.m., firemen pegged the damage at P10 million.

About an hour later, a two-story building on P. Burgos corner Kalayaan in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City caught fire, damaging P5 million worth of property.

F01 Christine Marie Corcino said four bars were burned—the Stardust Club, Papillon Bar, Fibs Bar and Enchanter Room—all housed in the building owned by a certain Joe Basso.

Corcino said the fire started at the Papillon Bar located on the ground floor.

“It was the building’s utility man, who was at the adjacent building at that time, who saw the fire,” said the fire investigator.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, she said.

At 11:18 a.m., a two-story house on Cypress Street, Superville Subdivision in Barangay Marcelo, Parañaque City, went up in flames after an air-conditioning unit allegedly short-circuited in one of the rooms on the second floor, said SF01 Teodorico Gatchalian.

The room’s occupant, a certain Glen Bautista, was away on a two-week business trip.

The six occupants, two of them helpers, related that as of 8 a.m., the lights in the house were already flickering.

About P3 million was lost in the fire, Gatchalian said.
