AMID intermittent rains yesterday morning, fire struck a building housing residences and commercial establishments in Parañaque City and destroyed P15 million worth of goods and property.
SF01 Teodorico Gatchalian told the Inquirer that the fire broke out shortly before 6 a.m. in the building located at 8087 Kabihasnan Road corner Quirino Avenue in Barangay San Dionisio.
It started at the second floor, in the stockroom of Julie's Bakeshop which contained plastic ware and other equipment. "The blaze started just as the bakeshop was opening for business yesterday," he said.
At 7:29 a.m., it had spread to an eight-door residential complex and other commercial establishments which included a shoe boutique, a drugstore and a beauty parlor.
The fire reached Task Force Echo before it was put out at 10:26 a.m.
About 16 families were left homeless. Fortunately, no one was reported killed or hurt, Gatchalian said.
He added that the fire spread quickly as the roof of the building, said to be owned by a certain Antonio Viriña, had no concrete partitions which could have spared the other units.
Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
