ONE PERSON was killed while over two dozen others were injured after a passenger bus fell into a ravine in Bukidnon province in the southern Philippines on Wednesday, police said.
At around 6:30 a.m., while negotiating a sharp uphill curve in San Miguel village, Manolo Fortich town, the driver of the bus lost control of his vehicle, causing it to fall off the national highway, said Superintendent Orlando Beņas, Manolo Fortich town police chief.
The bus, on its way to Wao town in Lanao del Sur province from Cagayan de Oro City, was carrying about 30 passengers, said Beņas.
"Some passengers claimed that the bus swerved when the driver avoided hitting a jeepney [passenger mini-bus], which was on the opposite side," Beņas said.
He said skid marks on the highway indicated the bus was traveling too fast.
Those injured were brought to two hospitals in Cagayan de Oro City.
The identity of the fatality was not immediately known, he said.
The ill-fated bus with plate number KVT-295 and body number 2634 is owned by the Rural Mindanao Transit Corp., he added.
