CALAMBA CITY -- A man was reported missing in Mabitac, Laguna while 50 motorists were stranded as heavy flooding hit at least 30 villages in five towns in Laguna on Friday afternoon.
Superintendent Joseph Nartatez of the Laguna police said they are coordinating with local government units and the military after floods affected the towns of Mabitac, Famy, Sta. Maria, Pangil and Siniloan.
At least 30 villages were submerged in floodwaters in these towns, he said.
Inspector Nestor Durian, Mabitac police chief, said the still-unidentified victim was swept by floodwaters in San Antonio village around 4 p.m.
Durian said incessant rains since Wednesday night have caused waist-deep floods in at least six villages in Mabitac. He said the 10-kilometer stretch of the Mabitac-Famy national highway was closed to small vehicles around noon.
In Siniloan town, 10 villages were affected by knee-deep floodwaters, said Inspector Pastor Castillo, Siniloan police chief.
