A large fire of still unknown origin destroyed some 400 houses and displaced an estimated 700 families in Barangay Piñahan, Quezon City, yesterday afternoon.
The Quezon City Fire Department said the blaze, which reached the Task Force Charlie alarm, started past 12 noon in a squatters’ area near the NIA road in Piñahan. The fire was placed under control two hours later.
Firefighters said the flames started from the house of a certain Alejandro Azurin. It then spread fast because the shanties adjoined each other and were made of light materials.
Fortunately, no one was hurt or killed in the incident.
