MABALACAT, Pampanga -- A fire that broke out at the fourth floor of the Dee Hwa Liong Foundation College (DHLFC) in Sitio Maisac, Mabalacat resulted in damage to properties estimated at P10 million, a police report said Tuesday.
Superintendent Renato M. Soria, chief of the Mabalacat police, said the blaze that started at Room 404 of the school building at 7:10 p.m. Monday was due to faulty electrical wiring.
No casualties were reported but the fire gutted all of the 45 rooms situated at the fourth floor of the school building.
Firefighters from neighboring towns and cities in the province, including Angeles City, Magalang and City of San Fernando, assisted Mabalacat firemen in putting out the fire that raged for over an hour.
Fire investigators are still determining the real cause of the fire as witnesses said they heard an explosion from the school's dormitory prior to the blaze.
Roberto Dizon, a close aide of college owner Anthony Dee, said electronic items like electric fans or videodisk players installed at the dorm and speech laboratory might have caused the explosion.
However, Dizon said they are looking into other causes like faulty electrical wiring.
