A TWO-hour fire in the gold-rush mountain of Diwalwal in Monkayo, Compostela Valley Friday night resulted to the destruction of several houses and the death of a nine-year-old girl.
The fire reportedly started around nine Friday evening at Purok 1A just near the barangay hall. It was placed under control at around 11 p.m.
Mt. Diwata barangay captain Franco Tito said Michelle Asis' burnt remains was discovered by her relatives after the fire.
It was not known how the fire started and whether it was an accident or deliberately done. Tito said they are still investigating the incident.
No estimate of the damage cost was made as well as to how many houses were affected.
Affected residents are temporarily housed at the school and authorities promised to give aid to the victims as soon as possible.
